A large portion of my ethnicity, as well as most people in our area of Wisconsin, is German. An article written by Hinda Winawer and Norbert Wetzel provided plenty of information about my dominant ethnicity. German people are often portrayed as evil, incompetent, and mad. Much of this has come from World War II and their role in it. Germans tend to bottle up their emotions, and a lot of that emotion comes out in their work, or in art. German families, although known for their tendencies to be abusive, are very valued. Family plays large roles in their lives, as well as a good education, and a strong work ethic. Germans tend to be maticulate in their work, and in the home. Women are to work at home and to keep the house clean, and a nice appearance, whereas the men are are the head of the house and they are to work and provide for the family.
In many ways, I agree and disagree with this article. As far as family values go, my family holds each other up on high. However, I was never raised in anything near a patriarchal household. My parents take it upon themselves to share the responsibility and work in our home. However, my parents' beliefs on education and work ethic are very strong. They push me to do my best in everything that I do.
